Don't want to be called homophobe just because you're against gay-marriage? Too bad. You are one | SBS Comedy

John Howard has complained that there's an 'absurd implication' that anyone who doesn't support same-sex marriage is a homophobe. Comedian Deirdre Fidge claims it's not so much of an 'absurd implication', more like a fact.

Detransition, Desistance, and Disinformation: A Guide for Understanding Transgender Children… — Medium

A long and well-thought-out piece by Julia Serano that deconstructs several anti-trans memes centred on detransitioning and, of course, The Children: Detransition, Desistance, and Disinformation: A Guide for Understanding Transgender Children… — Medium
I have participated in transgender communities since 1994. Between those experiences, and my many years of work as a trans writer, activist, performer, and presenter — speaking at community events, conferences, and colleges all over North America — I have had intimate and in depth conversations about trans experiences and issues with well over a thousand transgender people (likely more). I’ve extensively researched both the medical literature, and the history of psychiatric/medical “gatekeepers” who provided trans-related care, for my 2007 book Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity, and that work continued in my writings and activism related to trans-related diagnoses in the recently published DSM-V...

Transgender identity should not be diagnosed as mental disorder, says study | Society | The Guardian

A transgender identity should no longer be diagnosed as a mental disorder, according to the first field study to evaluate a proposed change in the WHO International Classification of Diseases (ICD).

The mental distress experienced by many transgender people is primarily the result of social rejection and violence, the study found. Not, as has been assumed for decades, solely the result of being transgender...

Impact of Transgender Personnel on Readiness and Health Care Costs in the U.S. Military Likely to Be Small | RAND

If the U.S. military decides to let transgender people serve openly, the number would likely be a small fraction of the total force and have minimal impact on readiness and health care costs, according to a new RAND Corporation study.

The U.S. Department of Defense has been reviewing its policy on allowing transgender personnel to serve openly and receive gender transition-related treatment during military service. The Office of the Secretary of Defense asked RAND, a nonprofit research institution, to study the health care needs of this population, identify potential health care utilization and costs associated with extending health care coverage for transition-related treatments, assess the potential readiness impacts of allowing transgender service members to serve openly, and review the experiences of foreign militaries...

Delays by NHS England will cost lives—it’s time to do the right thing

Study: Homosexual Behavior in Female Mountain Gorillas (in the wild)

Abstract
Humans are unique among primates for not only engaging in same-sex sexual acts, but also forming homosexual pair bonds. To shed light on the evolutionary origins of homosexuality, data on the occurrence and contexts of same-sex behavior from nonhuman primates may be of particular significance. Homosexual behavior involving females is poorly researched in most primate taxa, exceptions being Japanese macaques, rhesus macaques, Hanuman langurs and bonobos. We present data on homosexual behavior in female mountain gorillas in the Virunga Volcanoes (Rwanda) and test four functional hypotheses, namely reconciliation, affiliation, dominance expression and sexual arousal. Homosexual interactions between females involved both ventro-dorsal and ventro-ventral copulations accompanied by vocalizations and courtship displays.
